Texas Rangers’ Jose Trevino named 2018 Keeper of The Game Award winner

FRISCO, Texas – Jose Trevino has been named the 2018 Keeper of The Game Award winner, the foundation announced Oct. 16. Trevino is a catcher in the Texas Rangers organization and made his Major League Baseball debut this season.

The Keeper of The Game Award recognizes individuals or families in and around baseball who do exceptional work serving the special needs community and embody the spirit of servant leadership. It is given in conjunction with the Mike Coolbaugh Diamond Dreams Foundation. Past winners include Chris and Jill Davis, Jamey Newberg and Tracy Metten.

Trevino made numerous appearances at Keeper of The Game events to support kids and young adults with special needs and disabilities. He also donated All-Star catching gear for young baseball players affected by Hurricane Marie and organized a successful toy drive during the holidays in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Trevino is a regular at Frisco RoughRiders Foundation and Miracle League outings.

“There are not many baseball players that lead the way Jose leads in the community,” Keeper of The Game Founder James Vilade said. “He is passionate about his hometown and every community he plays. Jose Trevino is a true example of a Keeper of The Game.”

Trevino will be presented his award during Keeper of The Game’s brunch fundraiser at Rock and Brews Restaurant in The Colony, Texas, on Sunday, Oct. 21. The event is scheduled for 9:30-11 a.m. Tickets are available at keeperofthegame.org/rockandbrews.
